Below are some of the services we use to make sure you
have a pain free experience at our office.
Local Anesthetics (injectables)
Local anesthetics like Lidocaine are injected into the gum to help
eliminate pain and discomfort during dental procedures. These injectables work by temporarily numbing the tissues in the mouth and
blocking nerves that transmit pain. This type of anesthesia is commonly
used for minor procedures like having a tooth pulled or a cavity filled.
We also use anesthetics for people who have high blood pressure, heart
disease and people whoa re sensitive to epinephrine.
Topical Anesthetics
Topical anesthetics are a medication that is applied to the surface of
the skin to cause numbness. This helps to ease minor discomfort from
sores in the mouth, or it can be used prior to injection. Topical
anesthetics are generally very safe and have no complications or side
effects.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation techniques can be used in conjunction with local
anesthesia to relax a patient in preparation for procedures such as
crown placement. Usually sedative drugs are given to control anxiety
either before or during the visit. This generally does not eliminate
pain completely without the combined use of a local anesthetic. During
the use of oral sedation, the patient will be awake and responsive, but
feel very relaxed and drowsy, unlike general anesthesia which causes a
loss of consciousness.
Post Op Medication
We can prescribe various post operative pain meds to help ease
discomfort after a dental procedure or surgery. Some common examples are
Vicoden or Tylenol.
Nitrous Oxide
At the present we do not offer nitrous oxide as a form of pain
management, but this service is coming soon.
Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, produces short term sedation.
It is administered with a small mask placed over the nose and mouth to
allow the patient to breath in the gas. Once the mask is removed, the
effects of nitrous oxide will quickly wear off.
